Banners

Banners have been a traditional way for people to demonstrations, marches and meetings for generations. They were used by people to show their co-operation or collective belief in a principle. Many of the banners had symbols and pictures that helped put over their message.

The British Co-operative Movement has used them throughout its history. This site aims to help you understand some of the reasons why they were used as well as study some of the art and symbols used in traditional banners.

In addition to an extensive collection of images of Co-op Banners and articles about banners there are resources to help teachers use them within the classroom.
