This module provides a comprehensive exploration of Fair Trade through a number of participative activities that can be flexibly incorporated to meet a variety of curriculum needs.

Fair Trade can be used in a variety of curriculum areas including citizenship, business studies, geography, general studies and PHSE to name a few. The module has ample material to help develop a sound understanding of Fair Trade and also explores the wider concept of social justice.

  • Fair Trade offers students the option to connect their own communities with those in other countries and thus provides a model for studying the complexity that characterises modern societies.
  • Fair Trade offers the option to engage with society beyond the school walls, through study and activity.
  • Fair Trade is an example of social enterprise which offers increasing employment opportunities to young people. It is also a model that may encourage young people to create their own businesses.
  • Fair Trade shows a successful model of business based on values and concern for others and is a growing development in British society and worldwide.

Learning takes place using a variety of techniques - role play, decision-making exercises, consensus-building, individual and group work. Other elements require data interpretation and analysis.
